What is the fluting in corrugated cardboard?

The fluting in corrugated cardboard is the corrugated or wavy layer that runs between the two flat outer layers of board.

The fluting gives the corrugated cardboard its strength and flexibility.

Different flutes have different properties. E flute is the thinnest flute which means it provides the least strength compared to other flutes. Different flutes can be combined to create a double wall material.
