Optimise your SRP for the perfect fit

More products, less wasted space, and a sure-fire way to get products noticed on the shelves. But how do you optimise shelf ready packaging to find that perfect fit? Okay, let us explain.

What is optimised SRP?

Optimised SRP packaging takes the bones of what is already out there and customises, or optimises, it to meet your needs and supermarkets requirements. SRP itself refers to product packaging which has been designed to be used on store shelves with only minimal changes, rather than a secondary packaging needing to be used.

High quality eye catching designs

Having an intentional design brief for your SRP helps, this can be from fitting as many products in the SRP as possible or a design that utilises more space to reduce damage in transport, all aspects of the packaging process will be considered.

More products on the shelves means more eye-catching moments, and more eye-catching moments means more opportunities to buy - as well as looking fully-stocked, ready for business, and ready for the sale. Additionally, less handling and more efficient transport for well stocked cases when the SRP’s are leaving your business.

Printed SRP designs

Certain SRP Designs can be more cost effective than others due to the manufacturing process. For example, the cost effective 0201 style could be used as a starting point, and a perforated section can be added to tear off the top. This style is not only cost effective, but can be used with case erectors. Certain trays can be similar; these designs get the job done, and are popular  for a reason.

Another benefit is that it allows the opportunity to showcase your branding and aesthetic at another point of sale, building brand recognition as part of the packaging process.

It also helps with visibility and accessibility from a customer point of view, making it easy to choose and shop from your brand.

Benefits of having an optimised SRP

Optimising the packaging allows for total creative control that fits its needs like a glove. Basic  SRP designs will take you so far, but optimisation will take your business  to that next level.

  • Reduced labour costs by eliminating the need for in-store assembly.
  • Improved efficiency by making it possible for products to go on the shelf as soon as they arrive in-store.
  • Enhanced product protection means that products are protected through transportation and storage.
  • Better shelf impact can attract new customers and inform buyers.
  • Reduced environmental impact with minimised use of additional packaging materials.

Common changes seen in optimised SRP

  • Changes to dimensions, calculated specifically for the product, to maximise the number of products in the box, and the number of boxes on the shelf.
  • Board grade options depending on whether the product is refrigerated or not.
  • Changes to perforated top for easier opening or higher visibility of products.
  • Various print options to really propel the branding.
  • Dividers and fittings to keep products organised.
