The European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) is a non-profit organisation representing the interests of the industry across Europe and addressing a wide range of issues, from technical topics to economic questions.

Most common FEFCO styles:

This type of packaging is available as a standard design or can be customised as a starting point for an SRP (shelf-ready packaging).

FEFCO 0409

The five-panel wrap is a flat pack, suitable for packing products that are very narrow and require one or more very narrow panels.

FEFCO 0427

This style of box is self-locking and when assembled forms a strong die cut box.

The five-panel wrap is supplied flat pack, suitable for packing products that are very narrow and require one or more very narrow panels.

The box will require taping at the top and bottom like a traditional case but in addition, will require taping down the fifth panel to seal the box. We can print five panel wraps if you would like to brand your box.

This style of box can be manufactured in single or double-wall corrugated cardboard depending on the required protection your product needs.

FEFCO codes are a standardised system used to classify and identify different types of corrugated boxes and act as a universal language for understanding and communicating box designs.

How do FEFCO Codes Work?

FEFCO codes consist of three digits, each representing a specific aspect of the box design:

  • First digit: Indicates the basic box style, such as slotted, telescopic, or hinged-lid.
  • Second digit: Specifies the type of flaps or closures used on the box.
  • Third digit: Describes additional features like partitions, handles, or special constructions.

By using FEFCO codes, manufacturers, suppliers, and customers can easily communicate and understand box specifications without relying on complex descriptions or drawings.

What are the benefits of using FEFCO codes?

  • Standardisation: FEFCO codes provide a universal language for box design, eliminating confusion and misunderstandings.
  • Efficiency: Using FEFCO codes streamlines communication and reduces the time required to specify and procure boxes.
  • Accuracy: FEFCO codes ensure that boxes are designed and manufactured to precise specifications, minimising errors and waste.
  • Cost-effectiveness: By using FEFCO codes, businesses can avoid costly mistakes and ensure they are getting the most suitable boxes for their needs.

FEFCO codes are an essential tool for anyone involved in the packaging industry. By understanding and using FEFCO codes, you can improve communication, reduce costs, and ensure that you are getting the right boxes for your products.
